Summer 2024

Chicken Camp

July 15-19

9:00 am - 3:00 pm

During our inaugural Flower Club Camp we were amazed by JUST how much the kids loved spending time with our numerous flocks of chickens around the farm. We all had such a good time that the campers asked for more intentional chicken time in 2024 and so here we go!

Our farm is the home to innumerable local birds species, many wild and a few domestic. While surrounded by the orchestra of wild birds, we will immerse ourselves in the daily lives of farmyard chickens.

Each day at Chicken Camp we will turn our focus to chicken-inspired activities. This may include learning how to care for new chicks, gathering eggs from the laying birds or moving the fence for the orchard flock. Any number of creative endeavors may take place: designing feather art, cooking eggs every way, “chicken flying” (awkwardly, of course) on the forest zip-line, dying eggs with floral dyes and doing an hunt, re-imagining the chicken dance with a Tapalou twist, building a birdhouse (for non-chicken fowl) and performing chicken theater!

Any of this and whatever else suits our fancy on the farm as we are open to the many ways the days can unfold.

Flower Club August 5-9

9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Meandering through fields of flowers is a very special experience that serves as an invitation for making magic together. We’ll let the fancy of the flowers guide us throughout our days as we create art with flowers, play, wander in the orchard, spend time with animals, all the while growing our relationships with each other and all the life at Tapalou.

We’ll find ourselves tending the gardens, harvesting food and flowers, making floral fairy houses in the forest, weaving wreaths, dyeing eggs with flowers, and natural dyes, making floral prints, and playing.

We’ll engage our senses through smelling and eating edible flowers, steeping fresh teas in the sun and sipping them, making flower concoctions.

We’ll harvest food, prepare it, and cook it over a fire in our outdoor forest kitchen.

In the afternoon we’ll work with the flowers we have harvested making beautiful arrangements, mandalas, flower prints, crowns, dried flower clouds and other artistic delights.
